To the President.

Sir:

I have the honor to transmit herewith the nomination of J. Rowan Boone to be United States Marshal for the District of Kentucky, in the place of William A. Merriwether, whose term of office has expired.

This nomination is recommended by ex‑Governor Bramlette, General George H. Thomas, General F. P. Blair, Hon. N. W. Guthrie, General Wood, General Jeff. C. Davis, Hon. J. R. Hindman, Senator McCreery, and six members of the House of Representatives.
