Sir:
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 30th ultimo, enclosing certain papers relative to the subject-matter of the Mill Creek Bridge property, near Fortress Monroe. I have this day instructed the U. S. Dist. Attorney for Virginia to inquire into the rights of the United States, and certain persons named, in respect to the property, and to report thereon to your Department, in accordance with the request and suggestion made by the Chief of Engineers.
