I beg respectfully to ask your attention to a letter which I have received from Mr. Scudder, a respectable lawyer in New York City, well-known to me,— a copy of which I enclose. I shall be happy to communicate to Mr. Scudder any statement in answer to his inquiries which you shall think proper to authorize me to make.
