Sir:
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 22d instant, requesting that the United States Attorney for Louisiana be instructed to assume the defence of any suit which may be brought against Brevet Col. F. E. Prime, Corps of Engineers, stationed at New Orleans, for alleged infringement of a patent granted E. B. Bishop; and to say that the District Attorney has been so instructed.
