Sir:

I am directed by Assistant Attorney General Ashton to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 3d inst. relative to the claim of Messrs. Sale & Dowd, for professional services; and to say, in reply, that the account has been approved, (with the suspension of one item,) and transmitted to the Interior Department for payment from the appropriate fund.
