Sir:
I have the honor to enclose herewith a letter addressed to this office by the U. S. Atty. for the Dist. of Maine, requesting that he be furnished with any evidence in the possession of the Government, showing that the jurisdiction of the State of Massachusetts over the site of Fort Sullivan, in Eastport, Maine, has been ceded to the U. S.—I will thank you to cause such a search to be made in your Dept. as is requested by the Dist. Att'y., and to communicate to him the result of that investigation.
