Secretary of State.

Sir:

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letters of the 3d and 13th inst's. enclosing communications from the British minister, relative to the alleged imprisonment & murder of Cap. Geo. Parker, a British subject, at Augusta Arkansas.

I have caused instructions, (a copy of which is herewith enclosed,) to be sent to the attorney & Marshal of the U. S. for that Dist., for a speedy & thorough investigation of all the facts of the case—& will transmit to you the Reports of those officers as soon as they shall be received.
