March 18, 1869.

Hon. C. Delano,

Comm'r of Internal Revenue.

Sir:

I have received your letter of the 17th inst., requesting for the use of the U. S. Dist. Attorney at St. Louis copies of papers filed in this office, relating to the case of Lawrence, Maurice, Abel, and others against whom indictments are pending in that District.

In the presence of other official duties, I have not yet been able to examine these papers, and until such examination, I do not think it best to furnish the copies desired.

Very Resp. Yours,

E. R. Hoar,

Attorney General.
