March 26, 1869.
Hon. G. S. Boutwell,
Secretary of the Treasury.
Sir:
I have the honor to have received your letter of this date relative to the case of Arthur Ballou, an applicant for the pardon of an offence against the Internal Revenue laws.
This subject was referred to my Department by the President, was duly considered, and a Report thereon afterwards transmitted to him. No sufficient reasons appearing why the sale should be postponed, it will consequently be regularly proceeded with, unless some further communication be received from your Department.
Very Resp. yours,
E. R. Hoar,
Attorney General.
