Hon. J. A. Rawlins,

Secretary of War.

Sir:

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 29th inst. requesting that the U. S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, be instructed to assume charge of the defence of Brev. Brig. Gen. Wm. Myers, Ass't. Quarter Master, U. S.A., in a suit brought against him by one Andrew J. Fox, for the alleged unlawful detention of certain transportation vouchers.—A copy of your letter has been sent to the U. S. Dist. Attorney, with instructions to comply with your request, and to report his action to your Department.
