Hon. Geo. S. Boutwell,

Secretary of the Treasury.

Sir:

I have examined the papers submitted with your letter of the 30th ult., relative to the case of the U. S. ag't thirty barrels of rum, claimed by Frank Adams, pending before the District Court of the U. S. for the Dist. of Maryland;—and, upon the facts presented fully concur in the recommendation of the Commissioner of Internal Revenue, which is also approved by you, that a compromise be made with the claimant, and the suit be dismissed, upon the terms suggested by that office.—The papers are herewith returned.
