Hon. Hamilton Fish,

Secretary of State.

Sir:

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of this date enclosing a copy of a note of the 14th inst. addressed to your Dept. by Mr. Evariste Laroche, relative to the recent departure from Boston of an armed vessel, ostensibly for Jamaica, but really, as Mr. Laroche charges, for St. Marc, in Haiti.

Instructions appropriate to the case have this day been sent to the U. S. Attorney and Marshal for the Dist of Massachusetts.

Very Respectfully,

&c. &c.

E. R. Hoar,

Attorney General.
