Secretary of the Treasury,

Sir:

Your letter of the 8th instant, requesting to be furnished with a copy of correspondence between my predecessor, Mr. Evarts, and C. H. Silienthal, of New York, relating to a deposit of U. S. Bonds, in the Ocean National Bank, has been received. I am directed by the Attorney General to say, that, after an examination of the files and books of this office, no such correspondence could be found.
