Hon. T. Lyle Dickey,

Assistant Attorney General.

Sir:

The Attorney General directs me to say that the Secretary of War, in a letter of this date, sanctions the employment of Wm. H. Bent, as an expert in behalf of the United States in the case of Matthew Baird, vs. The United States, now pending in the Court of Claims, at a total expense not exceeding three hundred dollars.
