Hon. John F. Dillon,

Davenport, Iowa.

Dear Sir:

In reply to your letter of the 25th inst. I have the honor to inform you that all the papers to which it refers have been received, and are on file in this Department—the package by express arriving this morning.

I can only properly add that your high judicial reputation has not been unknown to me—and that the application will receive the most careful and respectful consideration.
