Sir:
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of this date, requesting that instructions be sent by telegraph to the U. S. Attorney for the District of Iowa, to take charge of the defence of a suit against Hon. G. M. Dodge, for acts done by him in performance of his duty as an officer of the Army.
The necessary instructions have been so sent.
