Secretary of War.

Sir:

I have the honor to transmit herewith a letter from F. M. Pixley, Esq. U. S. Attorney for the District of California, in relation to the suit involving the title of the Island of Yerba Buena. Before instructing Mr. Pixley to bring the case to trial, I desire to be informed if your Department has forwarded to him all the documentary proofs in its possession, and if it is, in all respects, ready for trial.
