Editorial notes: 1. This document refers to the January 19, 1870 letter from Matthew F. Pleasants to William Loughridge, which reads: "Sir: I am directed by the Attorney General to say that he has forwarded to the Secretary of the Treasury the opinion on the Bounty Law of March 3d, 1869, referred to in your letter of the 13th ultimo. Very respectfully, &c M. F. Pleasants, Chief Clerk."

2. The ditto mark in the margin of this document refers to the note, "opinion on Bounty Law," which appears in the January 19, 1870 letter from Matthew F. Pleasants to William Loughridge.
