Hon. Geo. S. Boutwell,

Secretary of the Treasury

Sir:

I have the honor to request that you will issue a warrant on the Treasurer of the United States in favor of Bushrod Birch, Esq. Disbursing Clerk, Treasury Department, for the sum of Fifteen hundred dollars, ($1500:) and charge the same to the appropriation for "legal assistance and other necessary expenditures in the disposal of private land claims in California.
