Hon. John A. Bingham,

Chairman Judiciary Committee

House of Representatives.

Sir:

I received on Saturday afternoon last your letter of the 26th inst. requesting me to cause to be sent to the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives on Monday next at 10 A. M. certain papers and records therein named. I send herewith such papers as, in the short time intervening, I have been able to find. I have ordered diligent search made for all the matter called for in your letter, and will immediately, on finding what you ask for, send it to your Committee.

The papers sent herewith are - Copy of a letter from E. L. Gould to Attorney General Black, dated May 19, 1858 - Executive Document of the Senate No. 48, 3d Sess. 40th Congress, parts 1, 2 and 3.

If you wish the originals of the papers printed in this document, so far as they relate to the Attorney General's Office, you will please inform me.
