March 8, 1870.

Hon. Hamilton Fish,

Secretary of State.

Sir:

I send to you herewith the papers in the case of Wm. Currie of Mo., who has applied for relief from the penalty of a bail bond. The circumstances of the case seem to me to be such as would make a compromise of the claims against him on behalf of the United States extremely proper—and I submit the papers and the case to your favorable consideration.

Very respectfully,

E. R. Hoar,

Attorney General.
