Sir:

Referring to your letter of the 31st ultimo, relative to the case of W. H. Lyons, indicted at Norfolk, Va, for smuggling from the steamer "Ocean Bird," I have the honor to transmit herewith a letter from the U. S. Attorney for Virginia, of the 15th inst., to whom your communication with its enclosures was referred.

I will thank you to return Mr. Beach's letter, when done with.
