Sir:

The Attorney General directs me to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 18th instant, and to say in reply that this office has never received any request for instructions from the late General Thomas, in relation to property at San Juan Island belonging to the late Augustin Hibbard, or any papers relating thereto.
