Sir:

I have the honor to send enclosed herewith an original letter from Warren Cowles, Esq. dated July 11, inst. relating to the indictment against Wm. Barry, for the murder of Capt. W. D. Spear, of the British Army—and have to request that 1st Lieutenant P. W. Horrigan be ordered to attend as a witness in the cases at Vermillion, Dakota Territory, on the 4th Monday of October next, and to report there and then to the Attorney of the United States.
