Benj. B. Foster, Esq.

Norfolk, Va.

Sir:

You are hereby employed as assistant to the U. S. Attorney for the District of Virginia, at a compensation of Twelve Hundred Dollars per annum from the date of your oath.

On account of the unusual service which you will be called upon immediately to render, your compensation for the first month of service will be two hundred dollars.

You will take the oath required by law, and send a copy to this office.
