December 10, 1870.

Hon. T. O. Howe, and

Hon. M. H. Carpenter,

U. S. Senators.

Dear Sirs:

Mr. Hazelton, U. S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, has tendered his resignation, to take effect of the first day of January next.

I suggest to you, and through you to the other Republicans in Congress from Wisconsin, that an immediate recommendation for the office from the Republican delegation from that State is desirable.

Very respectfully, &c,

A. T. Akerman,

Attorney General.

Dist. At. Attorneyship Wisconsin
