December 30, 1870. Hon. R. A. Hill, District Judge of the United States, Southern Mississippi Sir: I have the honor to enclose herewith a commission appointing Michael Shaughenessy to the office of Marshal of The United States for the Southern District of Mississippi, and to request that you will be pleased to deliver it to him when he shall have taken the oath, and given the bond required of him by law.
