December 31, 1870.

Hon. H. H. Leavitt,

U. S. Dist. Judge

So. Ohio.

Sir:

I have received, through the reference of Hon. J. E. Stevenson, your letter addressed to him under date of the 16th instant, relative to increasing the compensation of the Janitor of the Court Rooms at Cincinnati, and request that you will be pleased to inform me if you have reference to the Janitor employed in the Custom House Building, or the person employed in that capacity for the rooms leased for the accommodation of the Circuit Court in the Opera House Building. If to the former, the application should be made to the Secretary of the Treasury, as the building is under the control of the officers of The Treasury Department.

Very resp'lly, B. H. Bristow, Solicitor Gen'l

& acting Attorney General.

letter &c acknowledged, (Janitor's compensation Cincinnati)
