Secretary of War.

Sir:

In pursuance of the request in your letter of December 3, 1870, in relation to the case of Lambden P. Milligan against Alvin P. Hovey, and others, in the U. S. Circuit Court for the District of Indiana, I have informed the District Attorney of that District that this Department desires to continue the professional services of Messrs. Pettit, Slack, and Gordon, for the defence.
