Sir:

In pursuance of the request in your letter of the 17th instant, the Dist. Attorney of the District of Columbia has been directed to appear for the defence of the Engineer Officers having charge of the Potomac River Improvement, in any legal proceedings which may be instituted by the Great Falls Ice Company.
