February 3, 1871.

His Excellency Lucius Fairchild

Governor of Wisconsin.

Sir:

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 30th ult. transmitting a statement of the statistics of crime in Wisconsin during the year 1870. Be pleased to accept my thanks for your courtesy and attention in this matter, although I regret to say that the statistics reached me the day after my report was submitted to Congress, and was therefore too late to be available.

Very respectfully, &c,

A. T. Akerman,

Attorney General.
