Virginia City, Montana Terr.

Sir:

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 25th ultimo, stating that the importance of the presence of the new Associate Justice in your Territory at the April term of your District Court.

Hon. John L. Murphy has been nominated, confirmed and commissioned, as Associate Justice. He was here a short time ago, and I urged him to repair to your Territory without delay—and trust that he has done so.
