March 2, 1871.
Legh R. Freeman, Esq.
Farmer City, Illinois.
Sir:
I have received your letter of the 23d ultimo.
Under the rules of this Department I am not at liberty to give advice in such matters to the parties. My suggestion is that you apply to the District Attorney of the United States for Wyoming Territory for information in regard to your criminal remedies against your late deputy, and to him, or some other good lawyer of the same neighborhood for information as to your civil remedies.
Very respectfully,
A. T. Akerman,
Attorney General.
