U. S. Commissioner,

New Orleans, La.

Sir:

I have received your letter of the ?11th instant, and in reply inform you that it does not appear from the records that a communication was addressed to you by this Department about the time referred to. It is therefore not in my power to furnish you with any information upon the subject of the missing contents of the envelope received by you.

Your inquiry should be made of the Department sending the envelope.
