July 13, 1869.

Hon. Geo. S. Boutwell,

Secretary of the Treasury.

I have received to-day your letter of the 10th inst. relating to eighteen indictments under the Internal Revenue laws, against Thomas B. Leek, et al. It is proposed by the Commissioner of Internal Revenue to compromise the liabilities of these persons under these indictments, upon the terms set forth in schedules A., B., and C, accompanying your letter. The total of the sums to be paid, as specific penalty, is $475; and costs are to be paid in the case of each indictment.

Very Respectfully, &c.

E. R. Hoar, Attorney General
