Nov. 25, 1871, Hon. Noah Davis, U.S. Attorney, New York. Sir: I have received your letter of the 23d instant, in relation to the case of William O. C. Ryan, and his rescue. Your letter does not state whether the bail of $15,000 has been given by him in the case for the violation of the Neutrality laws, or in that for the rescue. Will you inform me how the fact is? Very respectfully, A. T. Akerman, Attorney General.
