Dec. 15, 1871. Leander Holmes, Esq. U. S. Attorney, Washington Terr. Sir: I enclose to you copies of certain papers transmitted to me from the Treasury Department, in which there are grave charges of misconduct against yourself. I desire that you will promptly make your response to these charges. Very respectfully, A. T. Akerman, Attorney general.
