Dec. 21, 1871. George C. Wharton, Esq. U. S. Attorney, Louisville, Ky. Sir: I enclose the copy of a letter addressed by this Department on the 21st of August last to Mr. Brown, the District Attorney of Indiana. The papers therein mentioned were enclosed in said letter. He has returned them to me with the information that Haupt, the delinquent bidder, and his surety Joseph B. Montgomery and Company, are all residents of Louisville, Ky. I therefore forward them to you, and you will consider the directions given to Mr. Brown in my letter of August 21st, as now addressed to yourself. Very respectfully, A. T. Akerman, Attorney General.
