On the 13th ult. a commission appointing you as special assistant to the Attorney of the United States for North Carolina, to aid in the prosecution and trial of cases arising under the 14th Amendment Act, approved April 20th, 1871, was sent to you by the Attorney General—and by his direction I now write to inquire if it has been received by you.
