Sept. 8, 1871.
Charles Bradshaw, Esq.
Montgomery, Ala.
Sir:
I have this morning telegraphed you that if you report for duty on
the 15th instant, you will be appointed to a $1200 position in this Department. Owing to the great press of business on me, I desire, if you accept the position, that you will be punctual in reporting on that date, or earlier if possible. I wish to say that when not engaged as an amanuensis, you will be required to perform other clerical duty , principally copying.
Very respectfully,
A. J. Falls, Chief Clerk.
