Sept. 8, 1871.
Charles Bradshaw, Esq.
Montgomery, Ala.
Sir:
I have this morning telegraphed you that if you report for duty on the 15th instant, you will be appointed to a $1200 position in this Department. Owing to the great press of business on me, I desire, if you accept the position, that you will be punctual in reporting on that date, or earlier if possible. I wish to say that when not engaged as an amanuensis, you will be required to perform other clerical duty, principally copying.
Very respectfully,
A. J. Falls, Chief Clerk.
app't'mt as clerk.
