Sept. 9, 1871, James A. Murray, Esq. Lockport, New York. Sir: You are hereby appointed Assistant to the District Attorney of the United States for the Northern District of New York, from and after the 1st day of October next. You will take, and transmit to this office, the oath required by law of District Attorneys. This appointment is made at the request of Mr. Crowley, the District Attorney, and it is understood that you are to receive no compensation under it. Very respectfully, &c. A. T. Akerman, Attorney General.
