Oct. 5, 1871. V. S. Lusk, Esq. Raleigh, N. C. Sir: Senator Pool has informed me that a number of outrages have recently been committed in Sampson County. I have to request that you will at your earliest convenience proceed to that county and fully investigate these alleged outrages, and if possible have the guilty parties apprehended and brought to speedy justice.
