Oct. 5, 1871. R. H. Gillet, Esq. Lebanon Spring, N. Y. Sir: In reply to your letter of the 30th ultimo, addressed to the Attorney General, I have to inform you that the resignation of John A. Campbell as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States bears date the 1st day of May, 1861, Associate Justice Strong was confirmed on the 18th day of February, 1870, and Associate Justice Bradley on the 21st of March, 1870.
