Oct. 31, 1871. James P. Newcomb, Esq. Austin, Texas. Sir: I have received through the reference of the Secretary of State your account for expenses incurred in obtaining the deposition of Capt. James Speed. I enclose herewith a draft for the amount, the receipt whereof you will be pleased to acknowledge. Very respectfully, A. J. Falls, Chief Clerk.
