October 31, 1871. A. B. Williams, Esq. Washington, D. C. Sir: You are hereby appointed special assistant to the District Attorney of the United States for the District of Columbia for one month, at a compensation of three hundred dollars. You will take and file in this Department the oath required by law of District Attorneys. Very respectfully, A. T. Akerman, Attorney General.
