Dec. 4, 1871. Major Lewis Merrill, U.S. A. Yorkville, S. C. Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of November 27, enclosing a list of persons imprisoned in South Carolina, under the authority of the United States, and held in custody at Yorkville on the 24th of that month.
