U.S. Senate.

Sir:

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of yours of the 22d instant, in reference to the nomination for Marshal for the District of Rhode Island.

It is proper to apprise you that Mr. John A. Gardner, of Providence has been recommended for District Attorney of that District.
