April 7, 1871. Hon. Hamilton Fish, Secretary of State. Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 21st ultimo, enclosing a dispatch to you from the Hon. Thomas H. Nelson, Minister of the United States to Mexico, under date of 27th of February, last, and several sworn statements made before Judicial officers of that country, on the subject of the pernicious character and conduct of Alexander J. Atocha. The documents which you have thus transmitted to me shall receive proper consideration in this Department. Very resp'lly &c. A. T. Akerman, Att'y. Gen'l.
