Aug. 22, 1871. Hon. Wm. W. Belknap, Secretary of War. Sir: In consequence of the information transmitted in your letter of the 19th inst. the District Attorney for Kentucky has been directed to dismiss any proceedings which he may have instituted against J. Allen Porter, for criminal connection with the fraudulent practices of B. F. Wayne. Very respectfully, A. T. Akerman, Attorney General.
