Sept. 5,? Aug. 5 1871.
Hon. C. Delano,
Secretary of the interior.
Sir:
I have the honor to enclose a copy of a communication to this Department from Warren Cowles Esq., District Attorney of Dakota, in which he states that in an anticipated trial in that Territory, it will be necessary for him to prove the legal existence of the Fort Sibly Military Reservation, and he requests from the Commissioner of the General Land Office copies of all the papers on file in that office whereby such reservation was made, so certified as to make them evidence.
He also needs similar record evidence of the legal existence of the legal existence of the Fort Abercrombie and Fort Pembina reservations.
I respectfully request that the papers he desired be furnished from the Land office.
Very respectfully,
A. T. Akerman, Att'y Gen'l.
